I've made some progress with this drawing. Still a long way to go, but hope by Monday I'll be able to post with a much greater progress. Right now I will have to leave some parts of the owl unfinished so I can introduce the bits of the tree she will be sitting in. Looking forward to a rest from feathers for a while, not that I won't have to go back and put the finishing touches on them later.
My class continues to go well. Students seem to be making good progress practicing new information and really working hard at home to get it done.

Loving your owl! Can you tell me what pencils you use, how you save highlights, do you blend? I should be in your class!
Hello Duene, Thank you for such a nice compliment. I have pretty much always used a mechanical pencil. They are available on line, I usually use Dick Blick. It is a Staeutler - MARS./80 Germany pencil and it takes 2.mm leads and a special sharpener. No reason you can't use regular good art pencils. I use a range of leads - 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B. So far with this owl I have only used the HB. My favorite hardness. I can get soft to pretty dark with just the HB. I blend with light and heavy touch with the lead. I'll be using a stump later to get out of focus parts of the tree.
If you look up Darrell Tank at FivePencilMethod.com he has some wonderful lessons. He is also on Face Book. Have fun. If I can help with anything else, just give me a holler! ~J~
