Rascally Racoon

This is a little 3 1/2" x 5" watercolor painting. It was a commission from my sister to give to her daughter. This is a pretty young guy and fun to paint. Fur going every which-a-way, you can tell he scampered up that tree in a hurry. Once safe, he set his evil eye on you not to come any closer. Racoon's are fun to watch, but sure can be a nuisance.

This last spring we had some really nasty winds along with very hard rain falls mixed with hail. I was on the porch watching the storm when out of the "fog" of the dense rain came a racoon running as fast as he could in that odd gait of theirs, with his tail to the storm. He was literally being pushed by the wind. When it was all over, here he came lumbering back in the opposite direction.

Racoon's are fun to paint as they never lack for entertaining expressions.

What a cute fellow and what a wonderful way you have with fur.

What a great painting, Judith. I don't know how you can capture the personality of this little guy so well, and especially in such a small one.

Thank you Vicki. You'll get there with the fur! I can't work a colored pencil!!

Duene ... While it didn't used to be true, I now have a magnifying glass with a light around it to work through. Old eyes have to cheat once in a while!

Fantastic painting! I can't get over all the textures!,
(BTW I voted for Gizmo, which is also the name of my brother's Pom! I have a Pom mix, Itchy, but I don't know what he's mixed with--everyone has a theory!)

Laura, Thank you so much for your comments. I do love textures, but your watercolors do what I can't. Thank you for voting for Gizmo. He is a Chihauhau/Pom cross. We call him a chilipom! I think he has the best of the two breeds. How on earth did you find by blog?

Thank you again for your nice hello.
